Spanish Cannons and Carriage, 1905-2006
Scope and Contents
Records documenting the Fairmount Park Art Association's presentation of the cannons to Fairmount Park (1905), a recommendation to transfer them to Memorial Hall due to weather damage (1909), and the Association's successful effort to resist donating the cannons to the World War II scrap metal campaign, resulting in a resolution that they retain their position in front of Memorial Hall (1942). Also includes correspondence and an agreement regarding fabrication of a cannon carriage by Stafford Wheel and Carriage (1994-1995), correspondence providing background on the cannons' capture during the Spanish-American War of 1898 (2005), and correspondence and photographs documenting relocation of the cannons from Memorial Hall to Fort Mifflin (2006). Also includes Fort Mifflin ephemera and clippings.
