Historical note
Partially bequested to Fairmount Park by Dr. George Woodward in 1915, this open and passive park features a man-made pond and open-air theater. A small tributary of Cresheim Creek borders the park. As per City ordinance the land was “dedicated” to Francis Daniel Pastorius (1651-1720), the German immigrant who founded Germantown after negotiating the purchase of land for the German settlement from William Penn in 1683.
