Scope and Contents
Correspondence documenting a century of relocations for the Washington Grays Monument, beginning with General Robert Patterson's 1872 request to erect a monument in the park and the Committee on Plans' rejection due to concerns about the design, followed by correspondence requesting the Commission designate a park location following the monument's removal from Broad Street and Girard Avenue (1887), and correspondence from Robert W. Torchia of the Union League of Philadelphia requesting relocation to the Union League and a Fairmount Park Commission resolution approving the transfer on permanent loan (1990). Also includes a report on the monument by Torchia, permit applications, an agreement, and clippings.
