Scope and Contents
A letter from J.B. Cox, Secretary of the Fairmount Park Art Association, clarifying that the Tam O'Shanter sculpture group remains the property of the Franklin Institute and requesting the Fairmount Park Commission amend its 1877 resolution of acceptance to reflect that the sculptures are held in trust (1878), a 1942 letter from Park Guard Superintendent William Long reporting damage caused by boys throwing stones, and correspondence documenting the sculptures' removal to storage near Horticultural Hall due to vandalism and the soft quality of the sandstone, and responses to inquiries about their whereabouts (1947-1954). Also includes 2007 correspondence and a timeline from a descendant of sculptor James Thoms, a c. 1934 booklet "Tam O'Shanter in Philadelphia" by Charles Halbert (signed by author), a transcript of the Robert Burns poem, an undated site plan sketch, and clippings (c.1840, 1924, 1937).
