Scope and Contents

Correspondence from the Philadelphia Fountain Society regarding Maria E. Swann's bequest for a memorial fountain to her husband Dr. Wilson C. Swann, proposing Logan Square as the site and outlining an endowment fund for maintenance (1916-1919), a Fairmount Park Commission resolution accepting the offer (1919), an Art Jury resolution approving the full-size models of the figure "Wissahickon" and the turtle and frog (1922), correspondence regarding floodlighting design (1927), and correspondence regarding conversion of the fountain to automatic operation, including a report from Chief Stationary Engineer Russell R. Payne recommending against full automation citing the need for an attendant to protect children and keep the square clean (1954). Also includes correspondence, clippings, excerpts, minutes, brochures, and inventories.
