Smith Memorial Arch, 1896-1978
Scope and Contents
Correspondence and a report of the Committee on Plans and Improvements regarding the proposed memorial, including photographs of drawings by James Windrim enclosed by Richard Smith's executor John B. Gest (1896), and a reproduction of a portion of Richard Smith's will (undated). Also includes correspondence regarding the installation of an accessible blackout switch for the memorial's lighting during World War II (1942), a transcript of Fairmount Park Commission minutes (1940-1956), a 1960 list of distinguished Pennsylvanians of the Civil War whose names appear on the arch, an undated description of the memorial, and a booklet published by Fidelity-Philadelphia Trust Company on the memorial (undated).
