Scope and Contents

Correspondence and Art Jury resolution regarding the relocation of the McKinley Memorial to a permanent site at the northwest corner of the Parkway and Arch Street (1920), and correspondence documenting decades of attempts to apply the idle McKinley Memorial Fund to various purposes including land acquisition along the Wissahickon on the cy pres principle, tree planting, and cleaning and restoration of the memorial, with a 1966 letter from the Deputy City Solicitor affirming the fund must remain dedicated to purposes consistent with the original donors' intent (1948-1991). Also includes a transcript of Fairmount Park Commission minutes relevant to the McKinley Memorial Fund (1920-1949), a copy of "The McKinley Memorial in Philadelphia: History of the Movement and Account of the Dedication Exercises" (1909), and clippings (1920, 1966).
