Fountain of the Sea Horses (Italian Fountain), 1926-1988, 2019
Scope and Contents
Records documenting the acceptance of the fountain as a gift from Italy (1926-1927), including a letter from Mayor W. Freeland Kendrick thanking the Royal Consul General, and an invitation and minutes from the dedication ceremony (1928). Followed by decades of maintenance correspondence reflecting the intermittent neglect of the fountain, including a letter to Mayor Bernard Samuel regarding its dilapidated condition (1946), maintenance correspondence (1968), and a $10,000 contribution from the President of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Order Sons of Italy in America toward upkeep (1988). Also includes planting correspondence (1933), a 2019 proposal, and clippings.
