This collection contains a variety of maps, plans and drawings relating to Pennypack Park. Materials included in the collection are blueprints, bluelines, linens, mylars and paper. The collection contains diverse types of maps and plans, such as sewer plans, topographic plans, site plans, latitudinal and longitudinal plans, water main plans, street maps, and landscape plans. The collection is particularly strong in items relating to city and utility plans. Items included in this collection are dated from 1897 to 2024. All items included are in English.

Historical Note

Located in the northeasternmost region of Philadelphia, Pennypack Park has developed along the Pennypack Creek watershed. Established as protected park space in 1905 for the preservation of surrounding land, Pennypack Park is now comprised of roughly 1400 acres of woodlands, meadows, and marshland. It is also home to one of the oldest stone bridges still in use in the United States- the Holmesburg Bridge erected in 1697. Pennypack Park offers a green retreat for visitors amidst an urban setting, and is home to miles of paved and unpaved trails, recreational and athletic facilities, and important operational structures such as Fox Chase Farm and the Pennypack Environmental Education and Visitors Center.

Maps, plans, architectural and engineering drawings documenting Pennypack Park, Fox Chase Farm, the Pennypack Environmental Center, park infrastructure, utilities, recreation facilities, natural lands restoration, and related properties, dating from 1897 to 2024.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in four series. Three series correspond to grouped sections of the 1983 Pennypack Park map: P1–P6, P7–P14, and P15–P24. A fourth series contains individual items not arranged according to the map sections.
