Wissahickon Valley Park: Valley Green Inn, c. 1950
Scope and Contents
The collection contains approximately 200 postcards from 1875 and 2001, though most of the postcards are from 1885 and 1915. A majority of the postcards depict Fairmount Park sites, although two Virginia and one New Hampshire postcard are included in the collection.
Of particular note are the postcards in Series I: Centennial Exposition. The postcards in this series were created in 1875 and each depicts a building from the Centennial Exposition of 1876.

Physical Description
Recto: image of the exterior of Valley Green Inn. Two people on horseback are seen passing by.
Verso: Valley Green Inn. Located in the Upper Wissahickon Valley. The original hostelrie was in existence in 1683, frequented by Pastorious and by millers and farmers. Catfish from the creek and waffles were the speciality. In 1778 Washington and Lafayette were reputed to have dined here on their way from Barren Hill Camp to Germantown.
