Scope and Contents

Correspondence regarding the gift of a Gobelins tapestry from the French Republic to the city of Philadelphia, including a 1918 letter from André Tardieu, High Commissioner of the French Republic, offering the tapestry to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and a 1918 letter from the Fairmount Park Commission notifying Tardieu of the unanimous resolution to accept the gift. Also includes a 1925 City Council resolution, correspondence from Mayor W. Freeland Kendrick, and an Art Jury resolution regarding the loan of the tapestry to France for the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Also includes a clipping of "A Twentieth Century Gobelins Tapestry" from the Bulletin of the Pennsylvania Museum.
