Scope and Contents note
The Sculpture and Fountain Collection documents the public sculptures and fountains of the Fairmount Park System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Series 1 contains photographs and visual materials depicting individual sculptures and fountains, ranging from nineteenth century works to contemporary installations. Series 2 contains administrative and historical records for individual sculptures and fountains, including correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, architectural drawings, clippings, conservation proposals, and dedication programs. The materials in Series 2 document the acquisition, siting, installation, relocation, conservation, and ongoing stewardship of individual works, and in some cases preserve significant documentation of proposed sculptures that were never realized. Series 3 contains administrative and reference files related to the sculpture and fountain collection as a whole, including conservation records, exhibition materials, interpretive and tour materials, and inventories.
